Lots of ways to create QTD reports. Here’s one.
FRx does not natively support QTD reporting, so these reports can be a bit difficult if you don’t already know how. The trick is to create at least four column layouts for one report, then use effective dates in the catalog to force FRx to automatically choose the correct column based on the report date.
There are many ways to create quarter to date reports. This is just one. Here’s the example:
And this is the Qtr 1 column for the above report. Note that it includes March (period 3), but March doesn’t print in the sample above because the report is being run for February. The P<=B in the Print Control field is what controls this. The column is to be printed whenever the Period Code (on the 4th row) is less than or equal to the Base period for which the report is being run.
After perfecting the 1st QTD column (including formatting), the next step is to File, Save As and create the remaining 3 QTD columns. For the 2nd quarter, you’ll replace period codes 1, 2 and 3 with period 4, 5 and 6. And so on the the 3rd and 4th quarters.
So now the 4 QTD columns are created, but you still need to tell FRx which column to use for which period.
In the catalog, on the building block tab, to the right of the Column layout dropdown box is a checkbox for Effectives dates. Check that box.
Now drop down the column layout dropdown, and the Effective Dates dialog box pops up. Complete it, specifying the correct column names for the appropriate periods. Click OK.
Now when you select different report dates for this catalog, the column changes automatically.
Note that there are some report designs in which you’ll need to create 12 column layouts for a single report.

Hi Jan
Does this same effective dates feature exist in Management Reporter?
I am trying do exactly what you have posted here of Quarter to Date. In February print just Jan + Feb, in April print just April.
thanks!

Hi Ian…I wish! No, effective dates does not exist in MR. What you can do is create the different column layouts needed, and either switch them out in the report definition, or create multiple report definitions. Meanwhile, I’m hoping for effective dates but not holding my breath. Jan

hi i want to calculate the QTD. And today is 8 Aug 2013. So can u plz suggest me how i have to calculate the QTD

Hi Randhir…you can probably follow the screenshots above, only substituting periods 7, 8 and 9, presuming a December year end. That would give you third quarter to date. Be sure to use the conditional print controls and run it for July. You’ll get that single month for the third quarter. But that said, there are many different ways to do QTD; this is only one method. BTW this answer holds true for either FRx or MR. Good luck…Jan
